America's Wealthiest Lawmakers 2011

in Society

A new list of America's wealthiest lawmakers 2011 has been released according to Roll Call with a combined $1.13 billion. The richest Congress members list was based on the minimum value of total assets reported by each member on their annual financial disclosures and subtracts the minimum liabilities from assets, producing a rough figure of how wealthy the members are. Leading is Texas Republican Michael McCaul whose asset is worth at least $294 million, increasing a whopping 300% in comparison with last year. McCaul’s wife is the daughter of the founder of Clear Channel Communications CEO Lowry Mays, rocketed from a fifth-place ranking to the top of the list this year. Last year, his net worth was fixed at approximately $74 million. Meanwhile, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., dropped from the top of the list to third, with a net worth of $193 million though it still marked a slight increase over last year. His assets also can be mostly attributed to his wife Teresa Heinz Kerry. Between Kerry and McCaul is Rep. Darrell Issa with about $220 million in net wealth.
