From the bottom to the top of the polls, Herman Cain, the former chairman and CEO of Godfather's Pizza officially won at the Republican Party of Florida’s presidential straw poll on Saturday with 37.1 percent of the vote, defeating Texas Governor Rick Perry who came in second place, followed by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney who left the state early Friday for events in Indiana and Michigan only picked up 15.4 percent and 14 percent, respectively.
On Saturday, the vital moment in Herman Cain’s life and career, a total of 2,657 delegates from the state's local party organizations gathered in the straw poll which took place at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference in Michigan. In fact, Florida is an important swing state, following Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada in the candidate-selection process. All the presidential candidates will compete in Florida, and Cain’s surprise victory gives him at least a morale boost for his effort. After the results had been announced, Cain said: "This is a sign of our growing momentum and my candidacy that cannot be ignored.”. “I will continue to share my message of 'common sense solutions' across this country and look forward to spending more time in Florida, a critical state for both the nomination and the general election”, he added.

Herman Cain was born in the year of 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee by Lenora (née Davis), a cleaner and Luther Cain, Jr., a janitor/barber/chauffeur and was raised in Georgia. He left Morehouse College in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and Purdue University in 1971 with a Master of Science degree in computer science. Interestingly, Herman Cain is the author of some books named “Leadership is Common Sense” and “CEO of SELF” and an article titled "The Intangibles of Implementation". He came to politics late in life, rising to prominence after a public debate in 1994 with President Bill Clinton over the president's plan to reform health care. At the time, Mr. Cain was the chairman on the board of directors of the National Restaurant Association, a lobbying group, and the president and Chief Executive Officer of the Godfather's Pizza chain.

He has been married to wife Gloria Cain who he met during their college years for 42 years, from the spring of 1968 and they have two grown children: Melanie and Vincent. Melanie is currently the manager of Herman's Intelligent Thinkers Movement (HITM) while Vincent is in the banking industry. Herman Cain was treated in 2006 for liver and colon cancer.
