Newt Gingrich is an American politician, author, political consultant, and history teacher. He is also a candidate for GOP nomination in the 2012 U.S. presidential election. Gingrich is currently married to Callista Gingrich, his third wife. His first wife is Jackie Battley. They married in 1962 and had two daughters: Kathy Gingrich Lubbers and Jackie Gingrich Cushman. In 1980, he divorced Jackie Battley after having an affair with Marianne Ginther. They got divorced in 2000 following a long-term affair with his third and current wife, whom he married later that year.
A few weeks ago, the Gingrich campaign launched a website, newt.org/answers and there have been many questions mentioned the divorce between Newt Gingrich and Jackie Battley. It is said that Newt Gingrich cruelly demanded a divorce when his first wife was in a hospital where she was recovering a cancer surgery. But Jackie Gingrich Cushman, one of two his children with Jackie Battley recently spoke up for her dad.

In May, Jackie Gingrich Cushman wrote a column, "Setting the Record Straight” sharing her thoughts about her parents’ divorce. And she appeared in a campaign trail in South Carolina this week to speak up for her dad.
Newt Gingrich’s daughter explained that it was her mother, not her father, who requested the divorce. Newt Gingrich went to the hospital that day so his girls could visit, not to discuss the divorce.
“Like many families, we had a hard time and we've all moved on. And we're all focused on helping each other” said Jackie Gingrich Cushman
Jackie Cushman showed her respect for her father “What I'm trying to tell people is, he really is a great guy. He really has balanced the budget. He really has reformed welfare. He's done all these serious things that we need at a serious time”.

Cushman and her sister, Kathy Lubbers, are currently campaigning for their dad in early voting states such as Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
