Lionel Messi was honored as FIFA’s world player of the year for a record fourth year in a row on Eve of Ballon d'Or ceremony held in Zurich on Monday. The Argentina star cemented his status as the greatest player on the planet by beating Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta and Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo to win the FIFA Golden Ball on January 7, 2013. The Barcelona forward polled 41.60% of the votes, ahead of Ronaldo on 23.68% and Iniesta with 10.91% in votes by journalists, national team coaches and captains plus selected media. The 25-year-old player accepted his prestigious prize in a black tuxedo dinner jacket and matching bow tie, both with a white polka-dot pattern in an unexpectedly flamboyant touch. Leo Messi also featured in the team of the year, which was made up of 10 players from Barca and Real Madrid plus Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao. With his four consecutive Ballons d'Or, Lionel Messi has broken the record of former France international, and current Uefa president, Michel Platini.
