On Tuesday night 25th October 2011, Oakland police have fired stun grenades and tear gas canisters at least five times to a crowd of several hundred protesters (including woman) in Occupy Oakland campaign. These people were trying to retake their encampment in  Frank Ogawa Plaza and the Snow Park facing Oakland’s City Hall and police had cleared their old camps 12 hours before. Police removed about 170 demonstrators staying overnight in this area and arrested 97 people in the morning raid. The Occupy Oakland is next movement of Occupy Wall Street which has emerged in many other cities including Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The Oakland violence started when demonstrators tried to reclaim a plaza they had been using as a campsite in downtown Oakland. Late Tuesday, hundreds of protesters gathered at a library and marched through downtown Oakland and they met police officers in riot gear, and several small skirmishes broke out. Oakland cops appeared to take further actions. While some protesters threw bottles among a crowd that had reconvened in front of City Hall, cops decided to engage in a game of cat-and-mouse by using tear gas to respond to demonstrators' repeated agitations. The area in front of City Hall overturned pillows, sleeping bags, yoga mats, tarps, backpacks, food wrappers and water bottles.
