Russian Ice-Hockey Team Killed in Horrific Plane Crash (Photos)

At least 43 people were killed on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 as the Yak-42 jet carrying Lokomotiv Yaroslavl ice-hockey team crashed near Yaroslavl, some 300 km from Moscow, Russia, after its take-off and burst into flames.

The only two survivors, Russian forward Alexander Galimov and flight crew member Alexander Sizov, suffered from serious burns.

The horrific accident’s reason is till unclear.

The Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team, who won the Russian championship three times and took third place in the KHL last year, was on the way to Minsk, the Belarusian capital, for their first match of the new Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) season.

According to a police official, passenger body parts were found in the Volga river, where part of the fuselage fell.
