Top Endangered Rivers in America

in Society

The river focused nonprofit organization American Rivers has released the list of top America’s endangered rivers of 2011. According to the annual report, mining, untreated wastewater and garbage and gas drilling are the most reasons which put pressure on the limited fresh water supplies in America in particular and in the world in general.

Endangered River 1: Susquehanna River, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland

The Susquehanna River, which flows through Pennsylvania and empties to the Chesapeake Bay, provides fresh water for more than six million people. The Susquehanna River has been seriously contaminated due to the development of natural gas reserves. The water mixed with sand, chemicals and oil is generated directly to the river.
