Nowadays, young generation makes great contribution to the development of their country. On the occasion of International Youth Day (August 12th), let’s find out the names of the world’s youngest leading politicians who became president and prime minister when they were just 30 years old or something like that below.

 

Joseph Kabila - President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)


Joseph Kabila, who was born on June 4th 1971, has been the president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 2001. His father, DRC president Laurent-Désiré Kabila, was assassinated. On November 27th 2006, Joseph became the first president to be democratically elected.

Mikheil Saakashvili – President of Georgia


Mikheil Saakashvili, born in December 1967, is the third and current President of Georgia. He was first elected as president in 2004. It was reported that Mikheil started his second presidential term in 2008 only two weeks after he celebrated his 40th birthday.

Faure Gnassingbe - President of the Togolese Republic


Faure Gnassingbe has been the President of the Togolese Republic since May 4, 2005. His father Gnassingbe Eyadema, who also used to be the president, passed away on February 5th, 2005 and he became the president. However, under regional pressure, he resigned and announced new elections which were held on April 24, 2005. He won the elections and was sworn in as President again.

David Cameron - Prime Minister of the United Kingdom


David Cameron became the Prime Minister of the United King at the age of 43. He has been regarded to be the youngest U.K. Prime Minister since 1812. Before that, Robert Banks Jenkinson took over the government when he was 42.

Dmitry Medvedev - President of the Russian Federation


Dmitry Medvedev, born in 1965, was elected to be the third and current President of the Russian Federation on May 7th, 2008. Medvedev is the youngest leader during the Soviet era since 1917 when Alexander Kerensky was in charge of the Russian Provisional Government at the age of 36.

Yahya Jammeh - President of the Gambia


Yahya Jammeh born in 1965 took control of the Gambia in July 1994 when the whole country was suffering a bloodless military coup. Two years later, he was elected to be the president and won the election.

Rafael Correa - President of the Republic of Ecuador


Rafael Correa (born April 6th, 1963), is the President of the Republic of Ecuador after winning the election in late 2006. He was declared to take over his position at the age of 43. Then he also succeeded in the election for the second term which was held on April 26th, 2009.

Felipe Calderon - President of Mexico


Felipe Calderon became the President of Mexico at the age of 43. He joined the president election on July 2nd, 2006. He took office on December 1, 2006 and was elected for a single six-year term through 2012.
