Yulia Tymoshenko, the former Prime Minister of Ukraine and one of the leaders of Ukraine's Orange Revolution, has been sentenced to seven years prison on charges of abuse of authority for signing gas contracts with Russia in January 2009. Yulia Tymoshenko was born on 27 November 1960 and she served as the Prime Minister of Ukraine from 24 January to 8 September 2005, and again from 18 December 2007 to 4 March 2010. Due to her involvement in the gas industry in the 1990s after Ukraine gained independence with the break-up of the Soviet Union, Yulia Tymoshenko got her the nickname "gas princess".
